A stylish new dwelling replaces a tired 1960’s modernist bungalow
This exciting new build occupies an amazing elevated site with unbelievable views across the Ribble Valley. This building has been built into the sloping site and provides three floors of open plan living accommodation with stunning views out. The top floor structure is set back and clad with burnt vertical larch cladding, which is complimented by slender black aluminum framed openings. This part of the house accommodates bedrooms and a family bathroom and the master bedroom suite enjoys a spacious roof deck.
“This is fantastic example of what can be achieved through close collaboration with clients who share the same vision and passion for creating an inspired home! The un-compromised contemporary design approach is evident throughout the building both in terms of the quality of space, and how this has been expressed internally and externally.”
The main living accommodation is open plan and spread across the upper ground floor level and the front wall incorporates full height glazing. Sliding glazed doors open up the dining area to a cantilevered balcony. The burnt larch clad bedroom accommodation projects out over the rear part of the dwelling and this provides shelter to the glazed corner of the garden room. The lower ground floor is set into the banking behind and provides more living and bedroom space, as well as a garage, home cinema gym and sauna room.
The lower and upper ground floor external walls are finished with white render and offer a clean contrast with the burnt larch above. The two storey glazed feature front wall is clad with black aluminum panels fixed with an attractive vertical standing seam detail, which compliments the appearance of vertical larch boarding used elsewhere.
This project is an exciting example of how it is possible to inject a new lease of life into a site where the existing dwelling has fulfilled its useful life. The contemporary design approach is respectful of the former modernist bungalow which occupied this site and also to other similar adjacent properties that are still in use. This building shows what can be achieved for a new family home in terms of providing light and spacious contemporary living accommodation, set into a sloping site with amazing views out. It also demonstrates what can be achieved with a considered pallet of quality modern materials and how these can be articulated to enhance the overall design through care and attention to detail.
